In addition to controlling Dan, the player can communicate with other team members and issue orders through the use of a microphone. Levels of trust can also effect the ending. Destroying scrap-heads or responding correctly to conversations increases this trust, while failing to act, saying the wrong things or shooting team members lowers trust.

Much of the game is based around a 'trust' system, in which characters gain or lose trust in Dan depending on his actions.
